Parents uses Note 2. We are a family of Notes so I have handled all of them. I would say the stylus of Note 3 is a big improvement. The tip is slightly rubbery thus creating a slight friction while you write. The feel is as if writing on paper. Whereas Note 1 and 2 slides across the scree. However, after long term use, the oil from finger and our face causes the the friction to reduce.
Wipe the screen clean with a cloth and you get that slight friction back. And due to the rubbery surface and friction, the tip will slowly wear off and I'm guessing that's why they provide 5 spare tip in the box. .Qualcomm achieves these enhancements in the QFE1100 by using a technology called Envelope Tracking.

All people surrounding me already though I am crazy or too rich.:stars: - Sony Xperia Z - one of the most stable Android phone I ever use, but I can't stand on it really bad viewing angle, I find it is low end phone screen panel. Sorry if I talk too over, that is my personal preferable, I love and need great display. Beside this, I shoot like hell on the Camera when I just bought it as it really too bad, lucky the camera quality do increase a lot after few firmware updates but the panel is hopeless, how great fine tune by Sony, it still can't be outstanding due to it TN characteristic. - Sony Xperia Z Ultra - I change to this as I find Sony finally use great display IPS on it, the screen panel is nice! But frank said, sometimes it do a bit troublesome due to it monster screen size, and the camera quality is crap like hell, my friend call it VGA camera. Then a big issue fake hang and SOD is really bother me, wonder why Sony implement that not so useful and only make screen even worst - backlight optimisation. I sold it after around a month usage only even though this phablet look sexy and screen is nice.
- XiaoMi Mi-2s - this is not my phone but lend by my friend, thanks he lend me, after using it, I just know how bad Sony in processing the photo output, this phone use same camera lens as Xperia Z, but the output is like comparing heaven and hell. The Mi-2s photo output is outstanding! - Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - as stable as Sony Xperia Z but with extreme awesome screen panel & great camera.
Don't forget it really useful S-Pen now. Note 3 is still plastic but is a well design and trick, Note 3 look as elegance as Sony now. All in all, really nothing I can complain on Note 3. I am truly satisfied with it.:thumbs: I believe this Note 3 can last long me until next year Note 4.:) unless something crazy things out before Note 4 then different talk:P but it seems less choices for me already, I feel I hardly can step back into Sony already unless Sony make some changes, use comparable with market great display panel, remove that stupid shattered proof sheet, I hate screen protector and I don't want to be force using back screen protector. Camera wise as long as it is same or better than Z1 quality, I got nothing much to complain on it. By only design and build, it can't serve me long and make me want to buy it again.
HTC wise, nothing is really impress me yet, even the HTC One as I dislike curve back design phone. LG wise, till date, none of their phone design is awesome even though LG is well making the phone performance solid and stable. As for those China brand, it still too earlier to adopt one. Just to share my experience with my my current devices: Note3, ipad4 and BB bold.However, Note3 is the best in term of reporting and communication in business. I can sign any document after receive it from mail box. I can write a report with the attachment with photos by Snote, then pdf and email it out in 5mins. BB used to be a good in business communication phone but other than better encription system it is inappropriate for business use today.
I have ipad4 also which is running ios7. No doubt it is very smooth machine beutiful interface system if with certain wallpapers. But then N3 win my heart when come to overall user experience, I go for N3 as I don't want to carry so many stuff with my hand and also the spen is very powerful now in Note3. It's so much snappier, although you won't notice it in whatsapp and fb for some reason:hmm: Camera is much improved, especially at night, the thing actually focuses properly, as compared to the note 2 which just keeps searching for AF lock. Battery however. After 2 days, I find that the note 3 is more power hungry than the note 2:( This could be cause I had a custom rom on the note 2 though, I was getting 6/7 hours of screen on time every day, with 18 hours of it being on. With the note 3 I'm only getting 4/5 hours:cry: HOWEVER, this is still my third day with the phone, and maybe it's cause I use the camera a lot throughout the day, and now I tend to watch youtube videos cause of the LTE.

Those who think XZU is too big this phone just right size for comfort pocketability. Third day using it n yet to find a single problem or bug. Battery life as of now easily match Note2 n appears slightly better.
Can only give better assessment after few more days full charge n usage However using app galaxy charging current I only recorded 1200mAh input on original cable, htc, Sony, blackberry cable.( using ipad 2.1A charger). Yet to use the original charger.

Get it from here: The Play Store versions: This is the best way of detecting incoming charge current for your Galaxy Note 2 (also works on the S3). It does not seem to work on other devices. It reads a file here /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg This provides an objective method to compare charging variances, and will help to narrow down slow charging issues.
Very often it is the cable, or a combination of a lousy charger with the cable. The Note needs a charger that outputs at least 1.5A (with GCC readings of 1400 and above) for good charging speeds. After extensive testing by forumers, and most notably brotan, good chargers output 1500 and above. Brotan has a supply of DUAL USB, DUAL 2A output chargers that have been tested working by several forumers. He also has original cables that can carry 2A current properly.
***When using GCC, you will only be able to see the reading of 1800 within a few seconds of unlocking your screen. After that, the next refresh will show only 1200*** This seems to be the same behaviour in the S4. It's likely a Qualcomm chipset feature. - brotan If you experience slow charging (ie normal is 2+ hours, anything longer than 3 hours is slow). I knew something was wrong when it took my phone 6 hours to charge from 22% to fully charged on the stock kernel, so I had my carrier swap my data cable. Swapping the data cable didn't fix the random slow charging issue.
If you view the battery stats under settings, your phone will indicate what kind of source it's getting its charge from. I discovered sometimes when you plug your phone in via the stock travel AC adapter, your phone detects it as a USB port.
It's not the charger that is the problem, but how Sammy designed the charger port or an error during the assembly process. I found a work around to avoid the phone thinking it's being plugged into a USB port. Once I initially lineup the data cable with the charger port, very very gently push down on the data cable as you fully insert it into the charger port. If you don't do so, it's usually a hit or miss when it comes down to what the phone will detect between AC and USB mode. This is the first phone that I own that seems to have this issue. Every since I've figured out what's been happening, I've been able without fail to avoid the slow charging issue. Note: Use GCC whenever you plug in and you can determine immediately whether it is charging as AC or USB.

First of all android is using a java virtual machine (dalvik VM) to run all the apps as well as the launcher. So each time an app is launched the dalvik VM has to load and compile the app.
In other words when the app is compiled the VM generates binary code that is native for the CPU/architecture that the VM is currently running on. Now there is a jit (Just in time compiler) as well to help speed things up.
There is so many advantages why Google an android took this approach. One of the major ones is that you are not tied to any CPU/architecture. That is why blackberry can run android apps. Also you see x86 android devices running android apps as well.
WP and.net are suppose to be kind of like java. However most developers compile the WP apps native to the platform. So the app will not work cross platform.
There is an advantage to doing this of course, and that is the apps will run faster since they are already complied for a particular CPU/architecture. Now android can do the same as well by making your app use native code for a particular CPU/architecture (ndk). But now the app is not cross platform any more. So basically the more ram and CPU you throw at android the better. Since most android phones nowadays offer high specs, then this isn't an issue anymore. It seems like the panel to manage the handwriting settings is either gone or hidden. However, you can use the 'Direct pen input' function to bring up the older type of handwriting input panel which allows for faster writing compared to the new handwriting panel in the S-note app. Been using the 'Direct pen input' and it's a dream to use:) Just thought I share this bit and credit goes to a member in XDA-dev forum for pointing out the alternative:). I tested my white Note III with a black SView cover and the auto lock/unlock works including the SView feature but ONLY limited to when you are receiving calls. Everything else does NOT work unfortunately - like when u close the cover, the display on the SView window is blank. Now after changing to a white SView cover instead, every SView function works perfectly. So if u have a black or white Note III, u should get the same coloured SView the same as your Note III. As the other SView cover colours are not out yet besides black and white, I'm hoping that Samsung fixes this issue in a newer firmware.

After installing bbs and I found out in my partial kernel wakelocks, nlpcollector consume most of my battery and cause my phone awake time double of my deep sleep time. Upon Google abt it and I found out Google location service is the culprit.
Since I didn't use Google now, I disable Google location access from Google Now setting and location service in phone setting. Now my battery life is rock solid. Phone is really in deep sleep when it is not in use. So for those who face battery draining issue, maybe you all can look into it. To recap, I initially thought it was the facebook app that was causing this drain as it calls up more than a few hundred wakelocks overnight. But as destex has mentioned, it was highly unlikely the major cause of the CPU wakelocks because I still had my battery juice drained from 38% to 28% between 11pm to 4am with all forms of data connection off and fb notifications set to minimum Ran wakelock detector at 4 am again and found the culprit - it's the NLP wakelock under Google services.
A quick search reveals that NLP relates to some network locator and was then pinpointed to location services. Solution from XDA forum and it worked for me so far - Disable location services in settings - open your wifi settings, go to advance then uncheck 'always allow scanning' - open google now, disable location services there (xda forum even suggested to remove web history but in my experience, not necessary and I think web history is integral to the user experience of google now. Without it, its pointless) After that, my battery juice was a rock solid 21% all the way till 830am this morning. Seems like this issue affects android 4.3 significantly. V7/#1088 destEX,Oct 8 2013, 09:39 AM good work googling and trying to find a solution after identifying the culprit. Disabling location services is one of the method to fix it but it also disables other location based features like weather and temperature forecasts.
If you like those here's what i did to fix mine, also got them from xda in the app list, open 'google settings' app. Go to location, disable location reporting and location history. Go to android device manager and disable both both options. Try to identify your unwanted wakelock and minimize your alarm wake up. Leave your phone idle 4hrs or more than that ( you will get accurate reading BBS dumpfile) then check what's on your highest partial wakelock. Important, check your alarm and network as well. KWL nothing much you can do unless you know how to tweak your kernel such wake up threshold but please know what you're doing with tweak setting (battery life>stability>performance).
Three known cause that will shorten your battery life 1. Mobile data 2. Screen brightness 3. Scheduling / sync setting Unwanted battery drain: 1. Bad app(s) example IM or Monitoring app for instance, keep awake your phone (this may be vary, depend how well / good developer build that app). This dumpfile you got 59 m 43 s Screen On so your battery usage mixed up with wanted and unwanted wakelock. Roughly I can suggest to you to: 1. Change update interval for your email client. No further comment for this app 3. Disable Location setting in rom setting. Check your google map as well for auto check in.

After google bout it, seems like it is a new feature in android 4.3 to help get better accuracy on our location by scanning for nearby wifi. More about it in the link below and how to disable that feature. Essentially, for note 3 Go Settings -->Connection tab -->tap Wi-Fi -->tap menu button -->tap advanced -->uncheck Scanning always available this should turn off wifi entirely.

I brought it to Samsung Service Centre in One Utama and upon checking the technician said that the LED is cracked inside. I didn't see any visible crack on the screen and I don't think it is caused by any fall.
Apparently, if I leave it, the stain will spread and eventually the screen will go dead. According to the them, I must have pressed the screen hard till the LED cracked inside:stars: Seriously!!!! Since the screen is not under warranty, I have to fork out my own money RM680 to pay for the damage. I tried to argue it doesn't make sense for a new device to be so flimsy and as a user of Note 1, Note 2, Tab 7.7 and Note 10.1, I know the quality is not that bad. But, they can't do anything. I had no choice but to agree to change the screen using my own money. The device can be collected after 3 hours.
So, I will be going back to collect my device later. Anyway, advice to all who prefer to use the phone naked, please spend a bit of money to buy a case such as otterbox. As for me, I am going to sew a pouch with thick sponge to protect my phone.:x.

This is an unavoidable result of more transistors, higher frequencies and more features. Some have posted about 'my phone feels very hot.' This is a QUALITATIVE statement with no numbers. Please provide QUANTITATIVE statements like 'my phone reached XX degrees when I was doing YY' Recommended apps are System Tuner, by 3C or Android Tuner, by 3C. These apps provide CPU Temperature which is the correct reading and NOT the Battery temperature which is the only reading most monitoring apps provide. The reported range of CPU temperature is from about 30C on idle or IM/light activity to about 60C to 63C while browsing and/or playing games.
Some users report a high of only about 45 degrees for their Note 3's regardless of activity. So DO NOT BE ALARMED if your Note 3 reaches 60 degrees. This temperature is uncomfortable to touch for more than 1 minute (or less for some) but Samsung seems to have alleviated this by placing the SoC at the topmost part of the device beside the camera module so that in portrait mode you don't actually feel it. So please provide QUANTITATIVE descriptions when posting about heat.

Either way, you have a case with tribunal. With this letter, when you go tribunal, you will win already. Without the letter also you can win, because it is unlawful to void your warranty without a valid reason what. If its void, then they can give black and white stating why, if they cannot give a black and white document stating why then they are denying you warranty that you should rightfully get. If I sell you a Macbook Air, you delete Mac OS X and install Windows, and the screen spoil, I cannot deny you warranty right? Same logic bro.

So far there have not been cases of Samsung rejecting rooted phones, but please be prudent and perform a Triangle Away counter reset and flash stock firmware before turning in your phone for warranty. UPDATE: The above paragraph applied to phones that arrived before Knox became a feature of Samsung firmware.
Currently, due to Knox and the Knox Warranty Flag (see Download mode pic below), it is HIGHLY LIKELY that Samsung will declare your WARRANTY VOID. Triangle Away DOES NOT WORK ON KNOX PHONES. If you live in the USA, rooting (of phones only) is legal as proclaimed by the Librarian of Congress, so you shouldn't have any issues with warranty.
The US legal system has not clearly defined what a 'tablet' is, so you can't root tablets. We don't know the case for 'phablets':lol: Can rooting damage your phone? It is a one in a million chance.
If you are afraid of this slim chance, don't root. This usually happens due to PEBKAC issues. Therefore, if you are prone to PEBKAC, do not proceed. Please google PEBKAC for your OWN UNDERSTANDING AND PROTECTION. If you do not suffer from PEBKAC, then please ensure 1 very important thing: your download is NOT corrupt. For Windows, use this tool: Make sure that your file MD5 matches the one from the host site.
If the MD5 matches, your download is clean, and you may proceed. There may be cases where you will not have the MD5 from the host site. If that is the case, use this tool: Install it. Select default options, and then run 'Test archive' from the right click menu. Passing the test will give you a good indication your download is not corrupt. What is the Flash Counter and Triangle Away?
There is a counter in the phone that checks for flashing of custom ROMs. If you have flashed a custom kernel or ROM, the counter will increase. When you get into Download mode, it will show that the counter has increased. This tells Samsung that you have modified with your phone. You can reset this counter by using.
Triangle Away DOES NOT WORK ON KNOX PHONES. What is this about 'locked bootloaders'? As you have seen from the writeup above, the bootloader starts your device. In Samsung, it also contains some checking code to determine whether you have a modified recovery and/or kernel. However, Samsung did not lock down the bootloader. A locked down bootloader means you can't root, can't change recovery, kernel or ROM.
We all fervently hope Samsung continues in this fine tradition. Samsung has now locked bootloaders due to security requirements of Knox. Other manufacturers also practice bootloader locking as a so-called 'security measure' to protect, ostensibly, the user.
See link above about why your phone is not rooted out of the box. Summary:- -note3 and other samsung flagships manufactured after july will have region locking in EU and US. -booting up for the first time in this phone must use EU/US sim cards. After the first activation, it will be sim unlocked.
-booting up for the first time with a sim card from non EU/US operators will lock the phone. Need to go to samsung service center to unlock. What this means:- -samsung wants to prevent parallel import from EU/US to other regions -AP set from EU/US will most likely be activated already before it can be used in other regions. The good thing is that earlier version of bootloader have a back door to get root without tripping knox. Newer bootloader after that had closed this backdoor. For the first step into rooting, ALWAYS DISABLE REACTIVATION LOCK under settings >security. To find out if you have the safe bootloader, download from play store. Run that app. Getprop ro.bootloader If the result you get is N9005XXUBMJ1 or lower it is the safe bootloader.
If the result you get is N9005XXUDMJ7 or higher it is the unsafe bootloader and you got no way to root without tripping knox. If you have the unsafe bootloader just proceed to root using.
But be warn your knox will be tripped and you may risk your warranty. If you have the safe bootloader, please read on. Subsequent post is on how to safely root, update and flash custom rom.
INITIAL ROOTING METHOD WITHOUT TRIPPING KNOX Root De La Vega. The links are dead. But no worries we have our own mirrors.
Rooting Instructions 1. Disable reactivation lock under settings >security 2. Remove the external sdcard (if you have one) 3. Boot into bootloader mode (see methods above) 4. Load the correct AP file into the AP slot in Odin (find your AP version in post #2) 5. Load the correct CSC file into the CSC slot in Odin (find your CSC version in post #2) 6.
Click start in Odin, wait for it to fully flash 7. Let your device fully boot after flashing has completed 8.
Copy the contents of Root_de_la_Vega.zip to the root of the internal storage /My Computer/[Phone Name]/Phone/ root_de_la_vega.sh root_files (folder) 9. Reboot (very important!) 10.
After fully booting delete the files from the internal storage that were added previously /My Computer/[Phone Name]/Phone/ root_de_la_vega.sh root_files (folder) 11. Reboot (extremely important!) Reinsert the external sdcard (if you have one) That's all! Those that are still unrooted on MJ1 can just upgrade straight to ML2 to get root with this file.

I don't know if it's true, but there's certainly cause for concern. Use vroot and kingo at your own risk. Vroot: either Google for Vroot or In Chinese it is 'Root da-shi'.
The changelog page shows which phones have been updated in their rooting tool. The XDA site is with instructions in English. Kingoapp in English. Steps i did 1) Download full firmware from sammobile (Hotfile is super slow. ) 2) URDLV to get the patched system.img.ext4 and cache.img 3) Extract the original rom tar file 4) Delete aboot.mbn 5) Replace system.img.ext4 and cache.img (frankly i dun think cache.img is actually patched but oh well no harm just replacing it) with patched one 6) Repack to tar.md5 using cygwin cos i dun have linux.
7) Flash with odin v3.09 8) Reroot using RDLV Done. Download the custom rom zip file. Copy the zip file to the root of your phone's internal SD 3.

Big thanks for the temptation given from you guys since yesterday I can't resist to download the 1.16GB file this morning although using 1mbps Streamyx (currently at countryside). I have two questions to all: 1) Any other way to change system status from Custom to Official beside using Xposed Framework+Wanam Xposed or wiping? And is the wiping in this case means factory reset? 2) For the changes of CSC, I already download the N9005OLBBMI3_CSC.tar.md5 (86MB). Can anyone help me flashing this? Because from Odin v3.09 that we used for rooting, I can't seem to select CSC button, only AP button available. Also, the rooting video guide from post #8 () seems a bit misleading.
From the video, after he boots the device in Download mode and selecting the tar file under Odin, he tries to copy the root files inside internal storagee. Well, I mean what the heck? How can he copy the file when the phone under Download Mode?
And the step is messed up. The correct flow should be (as explain from XDA and post 8): - Boot the phone in Download Mode - Connect the cable - Open Odin, select the tar file under AP button - Click Start, wait until the flashing is complete - After phone complete flashing and reboot itself, and while the cable still connecting with the phone, copy the root files inside internal storage - Reboot - Delete the root files - Reboot again - Done My advice is to remove the video as it will confuse some beginner.
I'm also a bit confused when watching the video. Maybe we can change to other, but I can't help find a better one as my internet is slow. Download THE CORRECT FILE FOR SM-N9005 - CHOOSE THE CORRECT VERSION MATCHING YOUR CURRENT ROM: Also download the CORRECT CSC file since flashing this ROM will change your CSC. CORRECT files needed for BMJ1: N9005XXUBMJ1_VEGA.tar.md5 - AP N9005OLBBMI3_CSC.tar.md5 - CSC If you do not wish to flash your CSC, it's fine as well since it will only matter when you need to send in for service.

To open 7z files, please install 7-zip, one of the best, open sourced compression utilities ever. This operation recursively fixes all SElinux file markers in /data/data, which are spoiled by titanium during data restore. Xposed Framework reverts the Custom status to Official This means that you need to pair correct kernel versions with ROM versions when you flash. Malaysian latest CSC can be obtained from here if your are missing some features.

I am having a problem finding the .exe file required to install the software. I have this item (EC-WS115 Sharper Image Weather Station) new in the box with the install CD, but that only appears to attempt to point to a server that no longer exists. I need the actual file, which apparently is named NIS01_INSTALL_2380.exe.
Links to dropboxes in the original thread no longer work. Does anyone still have this file available? Sharper Image has been no help and I can't find a trustworthy-looking source online. I know this item is fairly old technology, but it seems like a good unit and I'd like to find a way to keep it working vs. adding it to the landfill.
Any help appreciated.
