Fallout 4 The First Step Bug

  1. Taking Point (displayed as Taking Point: (Location Name)) is a Minutemen radiant quest in Fallout 4. After joining the Minutemen, this quest can be periodically obtained when talking to Preston Garvey. Preston informs the Sole Survivor of a promising site for a new settlement. He asks them to clear the settlement of enemies before building a recruitment radio beacon to attract new settlers.
  2. Fallout 4 is promising to soak up all the leisure hours of those who play it and then some, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Fallout 4 shipped error-free. In fact, there are a few quest bugs that could really put a downer on your game if you aren’t clued into how to handle. Here’s 7 quest-related bugs in Fallout 4 as well as some solutions.
  3. It's still a bug though, because it 'leveled' the starting quest, it put the level at much higher than my level. I have no idea why it did that, I guess the game does that to make sure people get quests for areas that are around their level? I don't know, because I was still level 4 like everyone else when I got 'The First Step.
Bug

So I am on my second play through of Fallout 4 and I went through The First Step quest where I cleared Back Street Apparel for the Oberland settlers. That quest completed but The First step quest steps went gray without updating to talk to Preston. I can't even unmark the quest, although it gives no more updates.

The First Step is a quest in Fallout 4.

Synopsis

First

The last Minuteman did not take his own life nor was he killed. In fact, Preston Garvey found a volunteer to put a target on his back by becoming the next Minuteman General. Now, the first step is to find a settlement and save it, to begin rebuilding the faction...

Walkthrough

  • Right after the conclusion of the previous call, the player is named General and is tasked with rebuilding the faction from scratch. The goal is to reestablish the Minutemen as a force to be reckoned with, starting from the basics.
  • The player has to head to the marked location and talk to the settlers to learn that a group of raiders has been making their lives miserable. Then it's just a matter of heading to the marked location, wiping them out, then returning to earn the first in a network of Minuteman settlements.
