Pre war: Frame Number is located on the front top frame member either by the front seat stay or by the steering head. 1950's: Located on the front down tube below or in front of the gas tank. An exception to this is the early Bantams where the frame number is.

Gentleman. For most of my 60 plus years I have dabbled with air guns. By choice and default I have favoured British guns from my youth. Yet somehow I have managed to avoid contact with the BSA Cadet Major. A couple of years back I purchased a Cadet and was frankly disappointed. Ruddy thing had a trigger pull that called for a crowbar in the trigger guard and the fixed sights were just all wrong. Yes I know that this rifle was claimed to be a good “first” rifle for a boy and the heavy trigger was claimed to be a safety feature for beginners but give us a break. I agree that a very light trigger pull could be unsafe in the hands of a novice but a pull this heavy is positively off putting to anyone being introduced to shooting. Even in the hands of an experienced shot it hinders accuracy to an alarming degree. In my mind what we have is a poor trigger given a positive spin by someone in marketing. My young grandson kept asking me why it would not shoot and finally made it go with two fingers and a rapid jerk of the trigger.
However. I recently purchased from a local auction site a BSA Cadet Major. Serial number CA53163.
Cost me about 60 quid and what a bargain I got. This rifle is a joy to use and look at. Packs a punch out of proportion to its size and appears to be very accurate. I’ve adjusted the trigger to a safe pleasant pressure that I am confidant will get the seal of approval from my grandson. I’m just sorry that it has taken me so long to discover this little beauty.
